A married woman identified as Oluchi has been arrested by the Edo state police command for allegedly faking her own kidnapping in the Ikpoba Hills area of the state.
Eno Ikoedem, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest to Newsmen on Monday.
Prior to the arrest, Oluchi’s family had raised an alarm over her suspected abduction.
They also appealed for a reduction in the N50 million ransom demanded by the supposed kidnappers.
However, police officers traced the phone number of the alleged abductor to a hotel in the Ubiaroko area of Delta state, where Oluchi was found with another man.
Following the arrest, the police summoned the woman’s husband to the station and informed him of his wife’s involvement in the plot.
In a viral clip, Oluchi’s daughter expressed shock over the incident. While thanking the public for their support, she said the family is devastated.
My mum has been released. There has been an ongoing investigation. And it has been found that my mum is involved in this case. The family is in shock. I only did what any child would do to ensure her mum is safe,” she said.
“My dad has some health issues. I do not know how he is going to go through this. I am so angry. I have no hand in this.”
The state police promised to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
