Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), held what was described as “constructive discussions” in Kano on Thursday.

Saifullahi Hassan, Kwankwaso’s media aide, shared this in a post on Friday, saying the meeting took place during Obasanjo’s official visit to the state.

According to Hassan, Kwankwaso was accompanied by Aminu Gwarzo, former deputy governor of Kano and the NDC’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

His Excellency, Sen. @KwankwasoRM, PhD, FNSE, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the NDC, last night paid a courtesy visit to elder statesman and former President of Nigeria, His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, at his temporary residence in Kano,” Hassan wrote.

“Former President Obasanjo is currently in Kano on an official assignment, and the visit provided an opportunity for warm exchanges and constructive discussions.”

Obasanjo has been an ally of Peter Obi, the NDC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the ex-military head of state endorsed Obi, saying he had an edge over then-candidate Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At the time, Obasanjo described Obi as “a needle with thread attached to it from north and south and may not get lost. He has people who can pull his ears, if and when necessary”.

Obi finished third in the 2023 poll, behind Atiku and eventual winner Tinubu.

Here are pictures from the meeting between Kwankwaso and Obasanjo.
